Custom Food Lab

Cherry founded Custom Food Lab in 2018 and was Creative Director from 2018-2022.

Based in Folkestone, Kent, Custom Food Lab (formerly Custom Folkestone C.I.C.) was a hub for knowledge exchange, artistic exploration and research about food and food production systems. From its experimental restaurant space on Folkestone’s Harbour Arm, Custom hosted extraordinary arts programmes and instigated the ‘Locavore Growing Project”, a food growing project which established a community garden during lockdownat Martello Primary School in Folkestone funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and continues to thrive.

”Seeding the Commons’ (2021-22) a programme of art and research funded by Arts Council England, Kent Community Foundation and Kent HAF and culminating in a major online event hosted in partnership with the Gaia Foundation. With support of “care taker” Jack Ky Chan and an artists steering group, the project included artist commissions (Raju Rage, Alise Kirtley, Fran Hajilou, zoe laureen palmer, Another Provision), community engagement through childrens workshops and walking/reading groups and a series of artists publications including a collection of poetry and a community food growing zine.

‘Something Held In the Mouth’ (2019) – an arts council funded programme of arts events curated by Madeleine Collie including a symposium with artists Daniela Valz Gen, Marta Fernandes Calvo, Raju Rage, Amanda Couch, Leone Contini, Jorge Menna Barreto and Clare Qualmann

‘Eat Your Words’ (2019) – a month long celebration of food in translation and transcription curated by Cherry Truluck with collaboration from the Delfina Foundation and featuring Marusya Bociurkiw, Elena Marchevska,

‘Vessel’ (2018) – a programme of experimental work led by Cherry Truluck looking at alternative modes of production and woman (Meta) as producer/re-producer, with work by Mira Albrecht, Emily Speed, Jules Degroot and Bek Conroy.
